Background and Objectives: Students in every society are known as an effective foundation for the future of every country. Paying attention to the psychological, social and academic health of students is very important. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of metacognitive beliefs and social vitality on the sports success of Karaj students.
Methods: The research method was applied, which was descriptive-survey in nature, which is considered as a quantitative research according to the research approach. The statistical population was the students of Karaj. To determine the sample size based on Cohen's formula, the power of the test was 0.80, the effect size was 0.25, and the confidence level was 0.95 equal to 318 people for advanced students and 318 people for beginner students. After collecting the questionnaires, 0.04 questionnaires could not be used and finally the statistical sample of 305 people was determined. The measurement tools were standard questionnaires, whose content, convergent and divergent validity were examined and confirmed. Cronbach's Alpha coefficient was used to determine the reliability of the questionnaires. Cronbach's Alpha reliability of the metacognitive beliefs questionnaire was 0.87, Cronbach's Alpha reliability of the social vitality questionnaire was 0.83, and Cronbach's Alpha reliability of the sports success questionnaire was 0.76. In order to analyze the statistical data, descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used using Spearman's correlation coefficient and multivariate regression using SPSS21 software.
Findings: Metacognitive beliefs had a positive and significant effect on the sports success of student athletes (0.11), social vitality on the sports success of student athletes (0.71), and metacognitive beliefs on the social vitality of student athletes (0.40).
Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded that continuous training and exercises in the fields of metacognitive beliefs and social vitality can be effective and useful for male and female student athletes. The results of this research show the importance of educational planning to strengthen metacognitive beliefs and promote social vitality in students. Also, it is suggested that schools and educational centers consider special programs to increase these two key factors in the sports success of students.
